personally, i don't understand why these have to be mutually exclusive. i envision an environment where we both advocate for secularity (word?) and also engage in a frank discussion of the role that religion plays in our state at various levels (economically, militarily, politically, etc.)
i agree - they shouldn't be mutually exclusive. "faith" in reason and rationality is as much a part of the truth or value it purports to bring, much the same with other religions.
